Advocacy groups for medical aid-in-dying on Wednesday asked a federal judge to strike down a recent consent agreement signed by Vermont Attorney General T.J. Donovan allowing doctors with religious and ethical objections to decline to personally counsel terminally ill patients on physician-assisted suicide.
The groups’ motion filed in federal court in Rutland, Vermont, said the consent agreement would “unreasonably” interpret a 2013 law that allows doctors to prescribe lethal doses of medication to terminally ill patients.
