Dr. Brian Callister joins the Heidi Harris show to share what happened on Monday at the Nevada Senate Health Committee Hearing on SB 165. He explains how two of his patients, one from Oregon and the other from California, were denied coverage for curable treatment for their cancers but were offered assisted suicide instead.
Dr. Callister explains how proponents continue to use misinformation and fear mongering to mislead the public. This is not about one individual’s choice. Legalizing suicide as a “medical treatment” will have widespread and dangerous effects on everyone’s healthcare. He reminds us that insurance companies cannot be trusted to do the right thing when these laws create perverse incentives for them to offer a cheap death over costly care.
