Update on State Victories

We have two exciting victories in the fight against assisted suicide! Maryland will not be going forward with an assisted suicide bill, a huge win for our side! Additionally, the Virginia bill SB 280, which had passed in the Senate, failed to move forward in the House – despite last ditch efforts – and will carry over to 2025.

As for Maryland, despite the efforts of assisted suicide proponents, the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee did not move forward with the bill that would have made Maryland the 10th state and 11th jurisdiction with assisted suicide laws.

In the meantime, the following bills are now declared dead for 2024 and will NOT carry over to the new year.

-Arizona: SB 1530, HB2878. No activity took place.
-Indiana: HB 1011

-Iowa: HF533. Carried over from 2023. HF 612 and SF 2101 introduced in 2024. No activity took place on any of the bills.

-Maryland: HB 403, SB 443. Public hearings held, bills tabled due to lack of votes in committee.

-Missouri: HB 1903. No activity took place.

-Tennessee: HB 1710 and SB 2258

-Wisconsin: SB 739, AB 781. No activity took place.

We are grateful to all our coalition partners and advocates who worked tirelessly to protect the lives of vulnerable people from deadly harm. The victory is really theirs!
