The bill’s title disingenuously implies that it offers options to terminally ill patients in confronting their illnesses; however, the only option explicitly offered is suicide. The “Elizabeth Whitefield End-of-Life Options Act” (hereinafter, “the Act”) purports to provide a legal mechanism under which certain patients are able to request assistance from a “prescribing health care provider” in committing suicide, specifically access to lethal medications that patients will “self-administer.” There are many significant problems with the bill that endanger the vulnerable, sick, and disabled.
